This past Friday I attempted to find a box of Halloween decorations but couldn’t find my good ones. -You know how that goes. Some things from your shopping past just don’t do it for you anymore. Well! I am going to probe harder for those tonight & have them up this week. Almost seems like a waste to have them up for three weeks but it’s worth it. Besides half of the pumpkin-y stuff can stay up until Thanksgiving. Cha-Ching. –Seriously though, I’ll have them up for y’all this week.

I did manage to do this:

Multimedia message

I took a single panel sheet & cut each bat out individually. I like it better this way & have the opportunity to scatter them on more windows & mirrors.

Multimedia message

Also!

Multimedia message

I figured I could paint my toenails in Halloween style & not too many people would notice just how funky it looks now that sandal season has passed.

Dig it!

I recently bought a pair of dress pants at the thrift store  in a woman’s size twelve. They’re much too big for me but I was thinking I could use the pant legs to create long narrow pillows for both the couch & bed. This particular pair of pants was a lovely shade of two parts dark gray & one part navy with silver speckles thrown into it.

Overall

Closer still

Cute, Right?

I think I could use the leftover scraps to create a garland to tie it all in. Here’s what I got! I’ve thought about  silver & gold.  They’re friends after all. Remember a few posts back? Blah Blah Blah Silver! Silver! & Gold for extra pizzazz? Something like that. Well, they’re a good pair for new year’s decor and they can sit  out the rest of January. I recently bought a gold/bronze-y pillow.  Well, this gold pillow & these soon to be silver linen pillows will be a smash! I just need a few yards of another gray/silver & some gold to complete the pillows/garland. +Just you wait & see! The results will make you want to ring in the New Year…now!

Halloween is slowing cropping up around here.  Hopefully, I’ll get on the ball & decorate this weekend. Check back!

Seriously.

Today my brother brought over a few boxes of stuff that I had left at my dad’s. Now my dad is moving so all that stuff is catching up with me.

I already went through all three boxes. The first two were real easy. Home interior’s pictures that hung up in my childhood room, clothes, misc. toys, etc. Out of those two boxes I kept my water baby & a box of Barbie doll clothes. I know, I know. Why would I need either of those things now? Well! Let me tell you. I kept the water baby because other than my baby shivers she was the only doll that I ever entertained even playing with & as for those Barbie doll outfits they would be swell for someone who could play with them in ten years. I say this because one of my dad’s friends let me play with her vintage Barbie clothes and dolls and I thought they were the coolest things ever. I want that for a daughter I may have.

The last box was just a bunch of embarrassing mementos. Cards, flyers, letters, notes, school work, etc. You know how that goes. You write something when you were sixteen & think to yourself ‘that was the shit’. Wrong. Fast forward six years & it is garbage. 98% of that box found a home in the trashcan. I did find this picture of me & my dog back in ’95.

Multimedia message

Cute. I know.

On my way to work I brought the first two boxes to the thrift store to be donated & popped inside the outlet. Did not find much but I did stumble upon an old ratty ceramic tree. It was only a buck so I grabbed it just for its bulbs. -The bulbs are expensive & I have a few trees that I’ve picked up along away with empty holes so spares are always a plus.

Stopped into k-mart a few days ago. What is going on with that place? They have no idea what a sale is. Their clearance does not go above 20%. That was repulsing. It also seems that Martha Stewart has packed up shop. All that remains beyond clearance is  a subpar selection of Christmas decorations. Most of which has only been (if at all) slightly altered from last year’s collection. Disappointment.

I did find these:

&

Both feature ric rac. I really like ric rac so I was pleased. I will wait for the large ribbon to go on clearance after holiday & may or may not buy that garland. I am not really a Christmas tree garland fan.

+Hopefully I can regain focus & get back on the more current Holiday/Craft related Halloween & Thanksgiving bandwagon. Fingers crossed.

This weekend I looked through a few choice magazines for ideas. I found a few that I am certainly pleased with. They’re mostly holiday/Christmas related. –My policy? It’s never too early to get inspired for holiday crafts. period.

Please excuse the quality of these photos. I am lazy (at times a lot) & happen to take a lot of photos with my camera phone. Tsk tsk.

Multimedia message

I found this & was somewhat intrigued. I have found one of these elves at a thrift store this past summer & could not resist buying it. I recently saw a set of these (& this time talked myself out of it) but I kind of like this idea. Especially if you had a playful theme & felted garlands to drape across the chandelier.

&! Then I found this:

Multimedia message

It’s adorable! In its own vintage-y + chic-y way. I like it. It could be done in a variety of colors with not only bulbs hanging from its center but also vintage pins or brocades stuck to it. +I totally dig the glass candy jars too. It is an easy filler for mantle space but still holds holiday charm, & the deers/does are the perfect finishing touch.

Here’s a closer look at the wreath:

Multimedia message

A desired length of chenille pipe cleaner could be cut and looped around the back along a wire or styrofoam wreath form to achieve the same look. A satin or velvet ribbon bow at top? Gorgeous! Got any other suggestions to achieve this look? Let’s brainstorm!

Feather Trees! Great!
I love feather trees. They’re so clean and are my go-to instead of those tacky yucky disgusting dreadful ugly artificial table trees. You know the ones. It would be a difficult decision but I’d want one of these or a classic vintage ceramic tree on my desk/dresser.
-They’re the perfect touch to a bedroom or home office. Nothing else needed. No santa statues or wax tree candles for me. Ick.

+++Winter! Winter! Winter!
Believe it when I tell you that Old Man Winter is on his way. Try to greet him & embrace the season with silver. Lots & lots of silver. (Save the gold for a New Year’s celebration & pair it with silver for a finishing flashy & elegant touch).

Multimedia message

Stunning? No? Yes!
Take the silver candle stick holders & pinecones and strategically place them upon mantles/shelves/dressers/sideboards/anywhere. Be on the look out for branches that you can spray paint (if you’re up to it pair with silver glitter. -Martha makes the best) & small decorative pieces. Usually about the time when holiday displays arrive, come silver snowflakes/deer/sleds/etc. Pick some up!

Multimedia message

Silver bottle brush trees are great too! They tend to run on the more expensive side at most craft stores (try looking on ebay or discount stores instead).

These photos (are from what I believe to be a BHG magazine) are allowing me to embrace the cold weather (even if it’s only a little bit) and are having me dreaming of Christmas and January Winter decorative displays.

Let’s get crafty!

Yesterday while at the goodwill outlet center, I discoverd this gem:

Multimedia message

It is an outdoor patio couch. How much did I pay for it? Seven fifty. $7.50. What? Too good to be true? Maybe. -I don’t know if I could find any outdoor furniture any cheaper (unless it were curbside treasures).

Multimedia message

It needs a good can of white spray paint & I am debating to recover the cusions at a later date. Maybe in time for next Spring. First I have to find fabric and force myself to practice at least one test cushion.

Multimedia message

Lotus flowers & leaves. They could look nice surrounded by pots with brightly colored foliage. Now I just need some tables and a throw and maybe a pillow or two…

+I pitcher of sun tea would never hurt anyone.

Last night after I got home from work & while watching a prerecorded “All My Children” (Don’t judge), I flipped through a few magazines that just arrived in time for my Halloween crafting/baking/thinking/decorating.

I really love to decorate for Halloween. Not sure why (maybe it is because I love to decorate. period.). I never cared much for haunted houses or even trick-or-treating so I don’t associate any of those with my fondness for the day/time of year. Maybe it’s just fall and the jolly jack o’lanterns and everything apple and pumpkin that comes with it.

Pumpkin breads/fry cakes/cider. Yum! Don’t get me started.

Where was I?

I think what I love most about it is the colors and the contrast they have against walls/displays/furniture/etc. Orange & Black. Simple decorations are best. ❤ Ceramic pumpkins, black cats & bats, and white ghosts. Nice. — Not into red blood/gore, gobs&gobs of neon green glow-in-the-dark webbing, or even dangling skeletons and dull tombstones. None of that for me.

Here are a couple of pages with things that I want to recreate:

Multimedia message

I love the black branch above the door and the wreath. Spooky yet still tasteful.

&

Multimedia message

The bat tree that sprung from the pumpkin. Cute.

& Finally

Multimedia message

The spray painted black flowers. Simple but with impact.

+Working on a few craft projects and seeing ANYTHING that can inspire or spark any sort of idea makes the effort put into the project(s) x98561549156 that much more rewarding!

Agree?

2nd blog post!

It is a bit challenging to gather topics and time to write these. Nonetheless!

This weekend I did this:

Friday

Multimedia message

Picked flowers from my grandma’s garden after tidying up. Adds cheer to the space. I have always liked to have a fresh bouquet on the coffee table. If & when! I have my own dining/kitchen/table/desk whatever I want to have flowers on all of those too. Even if these bouquets are so small as to fit in a bud vase. Someday. Someday. — I’d like to have a wildflower garden just to harvest flowers for this purpose.

Multimedia message

Bought this gem (it’s a pumpkin that acts as a jar/container) at Village Discount on State Road. I didn’t even want to go to this particular thrift store as I know there is NEVER anything worth my time. I suppose in this case we can turn the NEVER into a Sometimes. –$2 or $3 dollars well spent. –Out on the coffee table it goes. Bright! Orange! Glaze! ❤

Multimedia message

After fretting whether or not the dmv would still be open (I didn’t go until 4:15pm), I forced my way there and through the long, long, oh so long line. Only the dregs of society hang out in such places. –A woman at the dmv had her (may have been her grandchild) baby sitting on the floor with only a onesie on (no pants/shorts/anything!) and gave her keys to entertain him. Should that not be a no no? Honestly. He was putting these keys in his mouth. Oh! The! Bacteria! -It made me cringe. I said a prayer for him. Anyway! Where was I? Once I was at the counter it was a breeze to get my plates transferred and a new registration. Awesome.

Multimedia message

Went to Qdoba. It hit the spot. Loved it & the queso burrito loved my stomach back.

After all that nonsense I went to Target. Found numerous things I need/want.

This:

& Finally!

–I really want this & there was only ONE left. I may have to suck it up and purchase one even though they’re twenty highway robbery dollars.

Saturday

I went to beachwood place & visited all of these lovely places.

Bought groceries at Trader Joe’s (they didn’t have my peach salsa though. TOTAL bummer) & walked away with these beauties:

Multimedia message

They are from h&m.

See my pattern this weekend? Chunky gaudy rings.

Sunday

Didn’t do too much.

Multimedia message

Helped watch Sophie. She’s gentle and loves to shake. a lot.

Multimedia message

Went to the closing World Market. Everything is between 10-20% off. Not high enough of a discount for me to load up. Bought spices & this British candy bar. A Picnic. It’s made by Cadbury (you know, they make those lovely disgusting eggs around Easter). It has peanuts, raisins, and is covered in chocolate. It’s decent. Doesn’t quite beat my Snickers but I’ll take it.

Rounded the day off with chinese & a mad men episode (unfortunately both are not pictured –hah hah hah).

There it go. went. my weekend.

Now it’s Monday & a work week is ahead. Joy of Joys.
